WHY IS DEADPOOL 1 RATED R MOVIE
The violence happens offscreen enough in Deadpool that it could completely be done as a PG-13 movie and seem completely true to the source.ĭeadpool has offscreen violence in his comic all the time, like the scene where he kills clones of Aunt May and Uncle Ben or off screen stabbings. But when I think of Deadpool, it's the writing and the scenarios and the character and the jokes I love. Yes, there are definitely scenes with a lot of gore. The violence is the movie will push the line, but it could be done within a PG-13 window. Yes, there are definitely counterexamples, but disturbingly graphic murders are not necessary to capture Deadpool. I've read a lot of Deadpool comics where the violence happens offscreen (stabs or gunshots to an offscreen character with blood splattering on the panel). I'd say the violence in the leaked Deadpool test footage is about in line with the comics- there's a decapitation, but it's within a helmet and happens sort of offscreen. Not every issue has gore and lots of deaths happen offscreen or at an angle where you can't see them. Deadpool DOES tend to have gore, but it's actually usually not over the top. At the very most, they can do a Scott Pilgrim style "black box" fourth wall breaking censoring gag and it would still be very Deadpool-like. Marvel's "Hulk vs Wolverine" film captured Deadpool perfectly to me- the Deadpool game, in comparison, constantly threw me off by throwing in language that seemed not-Deadpool-like. He tended to make crude jokes and terrible puns, not throw out F-bombs. Marvel has always censored him and nobody complains about it.ĭeadpool doesn't need to use R-rated language, because he never did in the comics.

I have never seen it in a Deadpool comic, and there was even an internal dialog once about it. He's more of a rule-less Spider-man than anything.

Even the violence is often stylized or offscreen (finding Deadpool surrounded by bodies, for example, or Deadpool singing about being shot through the heart as he's being shot through the heart). It's a goofy, lighthearted spin on what should be a callous, horrendous murderer. Everywhere I go, everytime I click a link regarding the hoped for Deadpool movie, the comments invariably have people calling out how the movie can have no less than an R rating to properly match the content, and if not, it is not honoring the source material.ĭo people saying that Deadpool needs to swear actually read Deadpool comics? He doesn't actually cuss that much and rather tends to use creative insults.
